City-Operated General Electric DER Adoption
Power | Renewables
Location | Oregon
The Challenge
A city-operated utility launched a Smart Grid Test Bed pilot program across three metropolitan areas to better understand how Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) could be effectively integrated into their power systems. The program aimed to evaluate the adoption and impact of various DER types—including solar PV, battery storage, electric vehicles, and demand response—while identifying system limitations and opportunities for improvement.
The Solution
Halker conducted a comprehensive review of the power systems in the selected areas and performed detailed power flow analyses for multiple DER adoption scenarios. The team prepared a report outlining system violations and provided actionable low-cost and no-cost mitigation measures to enhance system reliability and support broader DER integration across the utility’s network.
