The Challenge

The client required detailed engineering and design for multiple centralized tank battery (CTB) and well pad facilities in New Mexico. Each site needed to balance standardization with customization—leveraging proven designs while adapting to site-specific production, layout, and regulatory requirements. The project demanded multidisciplinary coordination across process, mechanical, civil/structural, piping, and electrical/instrumentation disciplines to deliver fully integrated, constructible, and cost-effective design packages within tight schedules.

The Solution

Halker assembled a multidisciplinary team to execute full detailed engineering and design for the CTB and well pad facilities, building upon prior successful designs and refining them for the client’s specific operational needs.

Deliverables included:

  • Process Engineering: Performed process simulations using VMG Symmetry software and participated in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), resolving all action items before finalizing 72 P&ID sheets.
  • Mechanical Engineering: Developed detailed equipment lists, material specifications, and piping layouts in compliance with ASME B31.3 standards.
  • Piping Design: Produced a comprehensive 3D facility model including above- and below-grade piping, foundations, steel supports, and cable trays; issued a 20-sheet flowline and trenching package; and conducted 30%, 60%, and 90% model reviews to ensure alignment with client expectations.
  • Civil/Structural Engineering: Designed shallow foundations, drilled piers, and modular equipment skids tailored to the client’s standards.
  • Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering: Delivered a complete electrical package covering power distribution, grounding, lighting, heat tracing, and PLC/RIO panel design, as well as drawings for electrical one-lines, area classification, and instrument locations. Supported procurement of the E-House, service disconnects, and transformers, including bid evaluations and post-purchase support.

By integrating standardized equipment layouts and proven engineering methodologies, Halker delivered a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective solution. The final design provided the client with efficient, constructible facilities ready for safe operation and established a foundation for continued collaboration on future developments.
