Sustainability Coordination and Documentation
The Challenge
The client required sustainability coordination and documentation support for a large-scale infrastructure rehabilitation project that sought to achieve certification under the ENVISION sustainability framework. This nationally recognized standard evaluates infrastructure projects based on environmental, social, and economic performance indicators, requiring detailed documentation and verification of sustainable design, construction, and operational practices. The challenge involved aligning multiple project stakeholders—including contractors, engineers, and project managers—to ensure consistent data collection, compliance with ENVISION requirements, and timely submission of supporting materials for certification review.
The Solution
Halker provided an ENVISION Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) to oversee the project’s sustainability management process and ensure alignment with the ENVISION framework throughout design and construction. The ENV SP served as the central coordinator responsible for managing sustainability documentation, tracking credits, and verifying compliance with applicable metrics.
Working closely with the client, design team, and construction contractor, Halker developed a structured approach for data collection and reporting. This included establishing documentation protocols, defining evidence requirements for each applicable credit, and creating tracking tools to monitor progress toward targeted sustainability levels. The contractor supplied operational and materials data—such as energy consumption, recycled content, waste diversion rates, and community engagement records—while Halker validated submissions, organized supporting documents, and maintained a running log of achieved and potential credits.
Halker also provided ongoing guidance to project stakeholders to ensure design and construction decisions supported sustainability goals, helping to identify additional opportunities to enhance project performance in areas such as resource efficiency, climate resilience, and community benefits.
Through proactive coordination, technical expertise, and rigorous documentation management, Halker ensured that the project remained on track to meet ENVISION sustainability certification requirements, supporting the client’s broader commitment to responsible infrastructure development and environmental stewardship.
